For the first time in five years — or 35 games — the Reedley College Tiger football team lost a game by shutout last weekend.
The Tigers were blanked for the first time since a 52- 0 loss to Merced in 2016, as Butte College blanked the Ti- gers 34-0 in the Gridiron Clas- sic Bowl at Cowan Stadium in Oroville on Dec. 4.
Reedley drove down into the red zone on two of its first three possessions before los- ing the ball on interceptions.
“It was one of those types of games,” said Tiger head coach Rob Hartenfels. “But the team got the experience of traveling and staying in a hotel.”
Reedley had its chances. After trailing 13-0 at half- time, the Tigers drove inside the Butte 5-yard line before losing possession. The coach said one of the interceptions came on a running play.
“But the kids still fought until the last series,” said the
first-year head coach.
Five different Roadrun-
ners scored touchdowns in the contest. Reedley had 34 more passing yards (235 to 201) but lost the rushing battle by a 342-67 margin. Butte av- eraged 8.1 yards per rushing play compared to 2.4 for the
Tigers. In the game, the Road- runners held an 8.5 to 4.7 yard per play average, Both teams ran 64 offensive plays.
The Tigers converted only 2 of 14 third down situations and were 0 of 3 on fourth down, compared to 4 of 10 and 2 of 3, respectively. Butte fin-
ished the afternoon with six quarterback sacks.
Butte outgained Reedley 543-302.
Both Butte and Reedley finished with records of 7-4. A banquet and awards night will be held in January for the Tiger squad.
Valley Conference teams went 2-2 in the postseason as College of the Sequoias edged Merced in overtime on Dec. 2 while Modesto defeated Diab- lo Valley on Dec. 4. Last week, Fresno City lost to College of San Mateo in the Northern California semifinals.

With four games remain- ing before the start of confer- ence play, the Reedley Col- lege Tiger men’s basketball team may have turned things around last weekend in Sac- ramento.
Coach T.J. Jennings took his team to his hometown; winning two of three games at the James Clark Classic in the Sacramento suburb of Elk Grove and Cosumnes River College as the Tigers improved to 4-6 on the sea- son.
Two of those four non-

Cerro Coso is 7-2, the best record in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference.
Last week, the Tigers were boosted by the return of guard Anthony Martinez. All Marti- nez did was score 65 points in the three games, which in- cluded a 25-point performance against the tournament host
Cosumnes River Chiefs. Reedley opened the tour- nament on Dec. 2 with a 64-60 win on over Sacramento City before being edged by a 9-1 Las Positas squad on Dec 3. The team followed their 76- 73 victory over Cosumnes River on Dec. 4 with a visit to Golden 1 Center to watch the Sacramento Kings defeat
the Los Angeles Clippers. “It was a good weekend for us,” said the coach. Makhi Turner and Dwayne Howell each had 15 points in the Sat-
