tion fire caused by fire- works.” One right after the other.
However, this time to my surprise I heard a different kind of call. “Illegal fireworks at this address.” “Neighbor calling to report illegal fireworks next door, the address is such and such.”
One after the other, people calling in, not just to report illegal fireworks, but to give specific addresses on where they were.
I was almost pleas- antly surprised. Shook my head and smiled. Wow people are actually fighting back against il- legal fireworks.
This year, Reedley Police issued 30 illegal fireworks citations on the Fourth. Those came with a fine of $1,000.
For so many years we’ve complained about the negative effects of illegal fireworks.
However this year was different. What I heard and witnessed was something a little different than in years past.
Residents doing something about it. Tak- ing their streets back. Calling and giving spe- cific details of where the perpetrators were, and doing so with no hesitation. Finally put- ting a stop to the nega- tive effect that this holi- day has become.
