clubs in Dinuba.
Chute himself has now been
a longstanding member of the Dinuba Kiwanis Club. Another group he helps serve in is the Alta District Historical Society, something he thanked Roy Cotton for drawing him in.
“Alta District Historical Society is just a special group,” said Chute. “It’s a diverse group. These are people who are involved in other service clubs (mentions several) all different clubs that come in to support our history in Dinuba.”
He explained the importance of working with others in order to achieve your goals.
“I have found it very hard to get anything done alone,” added Chute. “Sometimes you get an idea and you get going on it, and usually
you fail. That’s
because you
didn’t work
with someone
else.”
He went on
to reiterate the importance
of having a
team to work
with. He
then took the opportunity
to encourage
others to find their team.
“I would like to encourage you, like Maribel (Reynosa, 2018 Junior Citizen of the Year) did, to join a service club.”
Reynosa was also recognized for her service to the community. In presenting her award, last year’s recipient, Trinidad Rodriguez, described Reynosa as an efficient leader in the way of service.
Reynosa worked 25 years in law enforcement, some as a deputy sheriff for the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office and some with the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office.
After retiring from law enforcement she has devoted much of her time as a board member for the Alta District Historical Society, is on the steering committee for LNTC, of which she is a 2006 graduate, is a member of Kiwanis, is on the
Dinuba City Council and actively serves at such events as the Cinco de Mayo celebration, Dinuba Raisin Festival and Dinuba Car Shows.
Receiving the honor of 2018 Senior Citizen of the Year was Diane Hayes.
Hayes is originally from Queens, New York and attended college in Pasadena, California. She has been married to her husband Michael for 57 years.
When it comes to her service to her community the list goes on and on. She is involved with Dinuba Woman’s Club, Pink Ladies of Dinuba, Dinuba High School Music Boosters, Dinuba Woman’s Garden Club, Relay for Life (Dinuba and Reedley) and Alta District Historical Society, just to name a few.
While working at Reedley Hospital, it was said that Hayes knitted over 100 baby hats for newborns who were born at the hospital.
All three of these recipients were announced weeks prior to the event, something new for the
Dinuba Chamber of Commerce. However, there were a few honors that were not announced until Friday night.
The honor of 2018 Teenage Citizen of the Year went to Jacob Rodriguez. He beat out two other Dinuba seniors, Jackie Gallardo Beltran and Lauryn Paredez, who with Rodriguez made up the three finalists for the award.
Also announced at Friday’s Chamber Banquet were the Teacher of the Year and Volunteer of the Year. The teacher of the Year went to Martha Sawatzky and the Volunteer of the Year was Shirley Storemont.
Also receiving honors was Forrest Waltermire, representing 2018 Small Business of the Year, Les Schwab Tire Center - Dinuba, and Larry Murillo, representing 2018 Large Business of the Year, Patterson Logistics.
“I would like to encourge you ... to join a service club."
