The long awaited Veterans Park will move one step closer to reality this evening with the council's budget adjustment to show receipt of a $166,050 Urban Greening Grant from the California Natural Resources Agency. Sanger's proposed project was one of only 39 selected out of 143 applicants. The grant money will fund placement and irriga- tion of trees throughout the park at Jensen and Indianola avenues.
A few of Sanger's nonprofits with gang and drug prevention programs will get
more Measure S grant money if the council approves a Measure S Citizens Oversight recommendation to divide up $18,963 among: SAM Academy's community science work- shop; Boys and Girls Club, the Big Brother
Big Sisters Unity Estates High School Bigs program; the Big Brother Big Sisters Bigs in Blue program; and the Community Resident Services Inc.
The money was either not accepted or returned by organizations that are no longer participating in the Measure S grant pro- gram.
An agenda and support package of mate- rial for this evening's council meeting may be viewed at city hall, at the library and on the city website at www.ci.sanger.ca.us.
The public is invited to attend and com- ment on items the council will vote on.

after that, a maximum of 10 inductees, living or posthu- mous, will be selected,” said Penner.
Future nominees may come from any of four cat- egories, said Penner: athlete,
alumnus/alumna, coach and contributor.
If the nominee is an alum- nus/alumna, the nominee must have graduated at least 10 years prior to his or her selection. Every nominee will
remain on the list for selec- tion consideration for five years.
"Sanger High School has a long athletic history dating back to the beginning of the school in 1899. At long last, a Sanger High School Athletic Hall of Fame is finally being started as a way to preserve and honor that illustrious past."
“We received quite a few nominations for this first group and it took a long time and many ballots for the committee to narrow the list to the final 20,” said Penner.
Nomination forms for fu- ture inductees are available at the high school athletic office, from a high school Athletic Club Booster mem- ber and at the Sanger Herald.
Creating the Hall of Fame has been a collaborative ef- fort between Sanger Unified and the Sanger Historical Society.
The Historical Society and the school district will use the old Harding brick school- house building just south of the Sanger Depot Museum, to house Hall of Fame memorabilia. The Historical Society owns the building and together with the school
SEWER: A formal bidding process for the repairs could take approximately 2-3 months ...

domestic trunk line on North Avenue.
The damage resulted in sewage backing
up into J Street and the 12 inch line had to be pumped daily to prevent overflow. The dam- age also allowed sewage to flow around the 12 inch line and seep into the trunk line.
"That caused underground erosion that if allowed to continue could result in the sur- rounding materials collapsing into the trunk line effectively blocking the flow entirely and causing a large sink hole in the middle of North Avenue," said Mulligan.
If the council fails to approve the emer- gency actions and tells the staff to go through
a formal competitive bidding process for the repairs it could take approximately 2 - 3 months to do the engineering, design, bid- ding, and the contract award, said Mulligan.
City staff would need to continue to pump sewage from the J Street manhole to the North Avenue manhole daily and keep the area barricaded off to assure there is no sewage overflow or street collapse while the formal bidding process was followed.
