7 RIFLES SHOOTING TEAM UPDATE: USA AND BISLEY
Following last year’s success at Bisley,
the Battalion fielded four firers to join the twelve-strong British Army Team in the
32nd Armed Forces Skill-At-Arms Meeting
in May. This was an Operational Shooting Competition between the US National
Guard and international teams, at Camp Robinson, Arkansas, USA. The British Army team came first overall, with 7 RIFLES firers achieving numerous top three places in rifle, combined rifle/pistol and team matches.
Despite a busy schedule with pre-deployment training for Estonia, the shooting team were fortunate to get five days
of training at Bisley. The team made the most of that time to prepare, with a healthy mixture of experienced Bisley shots and new firers who had not been tested in a competition before.
The team put in maximum effort through all of the competition and were placed third overall with good scores throughout the shoots. Out of the team of eight firers, six achieved the Army Reserve Top 50 (AR50) which was a great result. Two individuals came in the Top 10, with SSgt Catt placing 6th, and LCpl Burgess being pipped at the post coming 2nd overall.

A great result from the team, particularly given the Battalion’s busy programme. Huge credit should go to Lt Hopson and SSgt Catt.
