 CANADIAN VISITORS
8 RIFLES hosted 24 personnel from the Royal Military College of Canada’s Combat Weapons Team on the Battalion Operational Shooting Competition in February.
Held in Altcar Training Camp, marksmanship was tested across multiple shoots where
the Canadian’s two teams of eight competed fiercely, taking home some silverware (though they were no match for Y Company or the Patrols Platoon in the finals of the Falling Plates). Hosting the Canadians was a really positive way to engage with allies, understand capabilities and develop contacts for future training and opportunities.
For now, we hold the home advantage (and the SA80s sterling effort to prevent their left handed shooters proved invaluable) but there’s progress being made toward an away game in Ontario! Following the shoot, 8 RIFLES organised a tour of key Army institutions across the country to educate the Officer Cadets including, the Canadian INTERFLEX contribution, briefs from the Combined Arms Manœuvre School, touring the brand new Apache (E Model) and a tour of Canada House in Trafalgar Square. We look forward to hosting them again.
