  Obituary Mamie McAllister
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mamie McAllister who died after a long illness on 13 April 2015.
Mamie was born in Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland on 22 October 1941 and is survived by her husband Brian and three daughters, Joanne, Elaine and Louise and eight grandchildren and one great grandson.
Mamie trained as a nurse in Daisy Hill Hospital, Newry before moving to work in Musgrave Park Hospital, Belfast. Following her marriage to Brian in 1963 Mamie worked as a Nurse in a number of Hospitals before settling into her role as a District Nurse in the Antrim area.
Mamie was an active lady and for over 40 years enjoyed playing golf. Indeed her golfing skills saw her travel all
over Ireland and to many other countries including Scotland, France, Jersey, Canada and Florida. In later
life she also found time to play Bowls.
During the late 70’s Mamie joined the Territorial
Army as a QARANC Officer firstly in 204 General Hospital and later was attached to 308 Evacuation Hospital where she made many life-long friends. She is fondly remembered by those who knew her and described as being charming, gregarious, “great craic”, happy-go- lucky and having a very sharp wit. Many of those friendships remained over the years.
She was an active member of the QARANC Association NI Branch and was always supportive of events. She also was a member
of 308 Association and regularly turned up at meetings and events to reminisce about the good old days and have a good laugh.
Mamie unfortunately was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and for the last three years was unable to continue with her active life. True to style though, Mamie continued to make an enormous effort to live life to the full in spite of her illness. In the last months of her illness, her husband Brian and daughters lovingly cared for Mamie at home until very shortly before her death. She died peacefully on 13 April 2015 and our thoughts are with the whole family circle at this sad time.
There was a large attendance at her funeral service which demonstrated the respect and love in which she was held. Ruth Smith
