West Midland DA Report
Vice Chair
We have now moved into a new year for us all to look forward to spring. The Midland Branch had their first committee meeting
at Kidderminster Scout Hut on Saturday 21st January 2023.
A Stalwart member of the committee was unable to attend due to the fact he has had a triple bypass operation, we send our best wishes to Bernard Brown on getting better soon.
Preparations have been made for the Stand at the Malvern Spring Show 11-14th May 2023 any help eg growing plant or vegetables for the stand also Volunteers to help man the stand will be most appreciated.
On a sad note by the time,
you read this 5 members of the committee will have resigned their positions as officers at the AGM on March 11th at Hanley Swann, this will mean a complete change from the original committee for the Midland Branch.
I wish all the best to the new officers and members of the Committee for 2023.
David Forrester Vice Chairman
In my position as acting chairman at our last meeting in November at the last minute our lecturer Darren Rudge was taken ill, however he made sure that he sent along a replacement lecturer in the form of an ex-chairman of our group.
The meeting attracted one new NVS member and several members of a local gardening club. Our show secretary Roy James then handed out the prizes for the mini show held in August and arranged by him for which we are most grateful.
By the time members read this article we will have held our AGM and the lecture by Bob Oliver is about How he First got into Showing Vegetables shows followed
by Graham Link telling members How to Prepare Show Vegetables to their best effect to win prizes.
During 2022 the numbers attending our meetings has been increasing slowly but we welcome members and non-members to our meetings. We would also welcome anyone who would like to help out as a committee member to help spread our load.
We have already been planning for our stand at Gardeners World Live at the NEC in June this year along with members already growing plants for our display and for sale.
Graham Brickstock FNVS
Midland Branch Committee Membership
The Midland branch are looking for a treasurer as Jean Forrester who is also the National treasurer would like to reduce her workload.
Currently we also require a chairperson as the position is vacant and also a new secretary and membership secretary as Sandra Hall is standing down to reduce her workload and focus as national chair.
The committee would welcome new members as along with many other groups we would like to spread the workload as many members who have worked for the branch for many years are reaching the time of life when they can no longer be expected to work as hard as they have done in the past. Hopefully by the time you read this the AGM will have provided a full branch team.
However, if anyone is still interested in joining the committee, even if they are not
a member of the Branches two District Associations would be more then welcomed. Please contact Graham Brickstock or Sam Forrester our current acting vice-chairman, our details are in Simply Veg.
Previously, I had advised our Midlands Branch Committee that I would be standing down as their Branch Secretary at the AGM in March. I would just like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing committee for all their help and support and to wish the new Midland Branch Officer’s my sincere thanks for volunteering and I look forward to supporting you all going forward.
