Ihave served in many roles and would class TDT as a stream in itself; which offers many opportunities. In that last 12
months TDT have commenced a Review of the RAPTC Instructor Course and RAPTC Selection. It is key that we remain current with Research and Development (R&D) to ensure that the training and education provided on our courses is relevant. The team have invigorated Continuous Professional Development (CPD), to provide more opportunities by using our own very talented instructors.

’24 months in, 12 to go’
I am 24 months into what can only be described as the ‘white mist’ of the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT), with which I would certainly not class myself as friends with. During my tenure I have successfully transmuted a Monday morning into a Friday afternoon and discovered the secret formula of turning spreadsheets into confetti, which I will certainly take forward into my new role. As time passes by, my blue top is beginning to develop moth holes.
Training Development Team (TDT) isn’t all that bad, we do ensure we get away from the office for some fun from time-to- time. WO2 (QMSI) Ian Lester organised a Top Golf afternoon which was fantastic, and which I obviously won (Ian doesn’t count). We then did some department Adventurous Training (AT), some Op TEAMWORK orienteering, a department quiz night and the list goes on and on.
Since being at HQ RAPTC I have been fortunate enough to be involved in the ASPT Female Insight Day initiative; the

main aim of the day is to increase the amount of female AAPTI candidates. To date we have delivered 3 days, all of which have been considered a success, with the number of attendees increasing on each event. Soon we are hoping that we can correlate those that attended the Insight Day with candidates who arrive and successfully pass the AAPTI course.
During the latter end of 2023 most of our time was filled with organising the Fox Lines Christmas party and the Garrison WOs’ & Sgts’ Mess Christmas Function, both of which ran smoothly & without disaster.
Looking forward, our review of the RAPTCI course continues, ExVals are still scheduled, Programme CASTLE continues to test us and we are hopefully getting some AT in the sun at some point... all whilst planning my escape route.

‘What a year for Awards’
Now into my 15th year in TDT, and on my 9th SO2, time just seems to whizz by! This year like all the others has been just as busy. I have managed to secure another contract until Sep 26, then I think it will be time to hand over the reins. Another turn of the wheel sees more new blood into the TDT team, and I cannot remember just how many quality RAPTCIs have transitioned through the department and moved on and up onto greater things. With the current crop of RAPTCIs in TDT being of a high standard and destined to go places.
Basketball continues to be one of my main sporting focus’s (no change there then!) and this year has been challenging taking on a new role of referee coach along
