Open Coxed Four. As recognition, he has progressed into the Men’s Senior Squad (not because of greying hair).
Back onto the indoor scene, we saw several representatives (over 50% of the team) being selected for the Army Indoor Rowing Team. First off was the British Rowing Indoor Championships at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC), hosting FitFest.2023. Individual’s won trophies across the board, either in the 500m sprint, the 2000m race or the Team Relay event. Continuing the winning streak, UK Armed Forces Trophies were also won by members of the Corps. A good first show for the team.
The next competition in mind was the World Rowing Indoor Championships held at Prague’s O2 Conference Centre. Prior to the first day of events, the team found a CrossFit Box to do some last-minute preparation before two days of competing on the floor. But it isn’t all work, the team made sure to see some of the tourist sites of the city. They competed well against their international competitors (with Royal Navy and RAF counterparts there as well), with SSgt (SSI) Body and SSgt (SSI) Barrigan gaining PBs on their 500m and 2000m efforts.
What is next for the team? The current aim for us is to improve our representation, not

only indoors but have a boat represent at Henley Town & Visitors Regatta in a Coxed Four. However, before we can get there the team have got the summer to ensure we have the best opportunity to train for the event.

The RAPTC Rowing Club has had a successful year both on the water and on the indoor scene. We’ve seen individuals represent at a high level, competing and wearing Army Colours. Starting off the season, we had the Army Indoor Championships conducted by SSgt (SSI) B Charlton. This gave the opportunity for individuals to compete against personnel across the Army in the physically and mentally demanding 2000m race on the erg. This saw the likes of SSgt (SSI) Barrigan, SSgt (SSI) Body, SSgt (SSI) Coussens, Sgt (SI) Crosbie, Sgt (SI) Henry Jones and Sgt (SI) Rigby placing with podium finishes across their respective weight categories.
Moving onto the water, the Corps ensured that they had representation amongst the Army athletes competing at the Joint Service Regatta held at Wimbleball Lake. This saw success for SSgt (SSI) Body gaining medals for the Novice Single and Novice Double. Additionally, SSgt (SSI) C Coussens competed in the Improver Single and Open Double categories, but gaining a medal for being part of the
