  HEADQUARTERS 3RD (UNITED KINGDOM) DIVISION
As we head rapidly into 2024 and following a Handover-Takeover from Maj (MAA) Craig Woolass, IamnowinthechairasSO2PDwith ‘The Iron Division’ – the lead proponent for Land Warfighting capabilities, ready to respond globally with NATO and European allies, and I’m already aware that this will be a tremendous challenge and looking forward to the next two years.
3 (UK) Div now comprises of eight Bdes and Gps with 53 Regular and Army Reserve (AR) units. The broader Fd Army commitments are fundamentally at the heart of multi-domain deployments with a key focus on ‘how we fight in 2026’ which has become the reality of several major global conflicts and our RAPTCIs continue to be at the bedrock of health & deployability for fighting and winning wars on land.
Maj (MAA) D Taylor MBE RAPTC
Following the rebalancing of the Bde SMIs, I am now also joined in the HQ by WO1 (SMI) Stu Hawkins and WO1 (SMI) John Marshall who have moved from their respective Brigade Combat Teams. Sadly, as this goes to print, WO1 John Marshall would have completed his Army career after 23 years and we wish him, and his family, all the very best for their next chapter. The new PD Br structure should allow for better provisions when surging priorities for subordinate Bdes at a time when entire Army are being asked to push very hard on driving warfighting interoperability.
These specific roles will see WO1 Marshall’s replacement focusing upon the support to RAPTCIs’ PD initiatives, infrastructure and deployability, whilst WO1 Stu Hawkins will continue his work supporting overseas operations and deployments with a heavy
presence on Op CABRIT (Estonia and Poland) and Op ELGIN (Kosovo).
Alongside these two new positions, WO1 (SMI) Gaz Halliwell remains the continuity as the SMI Health Promotion. His continuing work offers Formations with the delivery of the Defence Health & Wellbeing Advisors’ Course, Defence Occupational Fitness and Unit Alcohol Advisors course. I can only encourage unit RAPTCIs to exploit the vast knowledge that WO1 Halliwell has in this area.
As we look forward to the remainder of 2024, the PD Branch’s main effort will be towards the continued support to the great work of our RAPTCIs, surging the Operational demands, exciting projects and what Future Soldier will deliver.
