During the past twelve months the AGC Detachment has seen an overhaul of its staff with plenty of new faces joining the Regiment. Indeed, Capt Tomlinson took the helm in April reliev- ing Capt Adcock of some of his many tasks and quickly imple- mented a rigorous working regime to t in with a busy FOE and the relentless pace of the Regiment.
This year has been challenging for the AGC Detachment, including the administration of 400 personnel during the unit move to Gaza Barracks in Catterick that saw the home of The Light Dragoons change for the rst time in 16 years. This pro- vided a variety of G1 challenges, not least ensuring the Pay and Allowances of all LD members remained unaffected during the transition. Prior to the move the unit did have the little matter of a G1SI that ensures compliance in all G1 matters, something it had not had to endure for nearly two years.
A G1SI is always a daunting time not least the build-up as once it starts all systems are scrutinised to ensure that the unit is oper- ating correctly, whether it be regarding Public and Non-Public funds, pay, resettlement and various other key areas. It is the time when as an AGC we are laid bare; no stone is left unturned, ensur- ing the LD AGC Det provide the service it should to a very busy Regiment. It was approached with vigour and determination with each member playing a pivotal role in preparation for the inspec- tion and this proved fruitful with the unit receiving an excellent Pass and all involved received a lot of praise from the inspecting brigade which even took away some of the processes as best prac- tice to be incorporated within other 4X units.
On the soldiering side, the sub-unit HR have deployed on Ex TRIDENT JUNCTURE, a NATO exercise in Spain which saw AGC personnel working in various roles; for example Cpl Samms worked with Comd Tp and Pte Taylor deployed as part of the 4X HQ giving her an insight in the working practices of a busy bri- gade. This is a key part for the development of SPS when soldiers can experience different roles at both unit and brigade level as it gives them an understanding of the roles that each element lls as well as providing a challenge that can take them out of their com-
fort zone when placed in a demanding overseas environment. Pte Taylor was singled out for her tremendous input and involvement from Brigade staff, often coaching and mentoring senior SPS sol- diers. This is a testament to both her and the calibre of the LD AGC Det who continue to impress whether in barracks or in the eld.
Despite a busy year on the work front it was imperative that all were given every opportunity to undertake both sporting and AT opportunities. In particular, Pte Taylor has enjoyed a sailing expe- dition with the AGC around Denmark and LCpl Brown took part in the AGC Skiing championships over Christmas and New Year in Austria. Others have taken part in such activities as hill walk- ing, kayaking and mountain biking. Sgt King has taken part in Triathlon events while Sgt Armitage-White has taken part in Ex APHRODITE DRAGOON, a 10 day football tour to Cyprus that saw mixed results for the team. The AGC Det has also had numer- ous team building events including a day at Catterick Races. This proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable day during which we took the opportunity to say farewell to some long-standing Detachment members such as Sgt King. He presented the winning trophy to the winning connections of a race, capping a magni cent day for all.
We have said goodbye a number of personnel including Capt Adcock, Sgt King, Cpl Ncube and Cpl Wilkinson and I wish them every success in their new assignments. Recent welcome addi- tions are Capt Tomlinson, Capt Tatters, Sgt Evans, Sgt Raikoso, Cpl Blundell and Cpl Hugill.
This year has given a lot of opportunities to the SPS on all fronts and it has proved fruitful as all have produced the goods when it mattered. Whether it has been on exercise, deploying on rigorous training expeditions or working late into the night preparing for an annual inspection or RACs it is clear it has been a fantastic year for the AGC Detachment. We look forward to new ventures and challenges in 2016.
