more than the wire mesh that we specifically put in place for them to grow
up – typical! Therefore, we decided to take the net off the sides at this point (at the risk of pigeons pecking away at them!) to try and get the peas to grow up
the wire, and tying them in loosely with a piece of string where removing the netting
had left them standing a bit precariously.
After this, it wasn’t long before we got flowers starting to form. And then within a week, there were lots of pea pods starting to show!
We ended up with quite a good harvest of sugar snap peas that lasted quite a few weeks. We tried them
various ways – but our favourite was in a stir fry, along with some of the other vegetables we’d grown!
The harvest was so good in fact, that we tried a second sowing. These were sown at the end of July, and hopefully at the time of reading this, they will be ready to harvest. We’ll let you know if the second sowing made it in the next SV magazine!
