                                OUNDLE MUSEUM
Behind the Scenes
As well as producing displays and annual themed exhibitions throughout the year, a great deal of work takes place behind the scenes upstairs in our office, our work room and the store.
Every item in our collection is photographed and recorded both as a document and digitally. Research is undertaken using our reference library and records, particularly when requests for family history or for the locality are involved.
As new material (objects and documents)
is offered, a decision has to be made to see if it conforms to our collection criteria. “Is it local? Do we already have one? Do we have room for it?” If accepted, paperwork has to be undertaken before the material is found a home in the store or the filing system.
Among our records are box files for documents and images relating to each of the villages in our area. These range from
newspaper cuttings to family histories and photos, anecdotes to postcards.
It all keeps us extremely busy!
The Museum is closed until the beginning of March. We would like to promote a talk being organised by our Friends the Oundle Historical Society on Friday 14th January at 7.30pm ‘Pubs Galore, their place in Oundle’s History’.
