HIDDEN GEM
Fletton Field
Just up the Glapthorn Road, accessed through
a little cut through before the Abbot House
turning, is Fletton Field. A little piece of calm
– have you discovered it yet?
Fletton Field is one of the very few green
spaces in Oundle that’s not privately owned.
Following a successful campaign to prevent
it from being sold for development by
North Northants Council, the Fletton Field
Association (FFA) is delighted that ownership
of the Field as a community asset has been
transferred to Oundle Town Council.
FFA’s aim, with the help of the local schools
and local people, is to make Fletton Field a place
of enjoyment, beauty, and biodiversity, where
the different members of our community can
come and relax, walk their dogs, have their
exercise class, pick wildflowers and fruit from
the orchard, hold family picnics, nurture the
local wildlife and just enjoy a little oasis in the
middle of our busy town.
Since being asked to manage the Field the
Fletton Field Association has planted 26 fruit
trees in the Field which will bear a whole variety
of fruits over the coming years – quince, pear,
apple and many others. We are also holding
an Apple Day celebration on 19th October to
celebrate the glorious English apple.

Apologies from Oundle Life
Here at Oundle Life, we’re sorry to say, that we are not infallible
and in the last issue we made an error.
On page 22 we printed an article about Stephen Bell and his
amazing choir ‘Oundle Loves Singing’, but by mistake we subtitled
the story ‘Oundle Musical Theatre Choir’ – another fabulous local
choir led by Lindsay Dalton, who we had featured in the February
issue. We sincerely apologise to both choirs for this error and hope
that it hasn’t caused anyone too much embarrassment.
