THE KINGS PLOT
a seed head)
and these are
growing on in
my greenhouse
in 10cm square
pots, and are
already 25cm tall,
ideal for some nice early
show leeks.
In late January, I sowed some
Sweet and Chilli Peppers in the heated
propagator as they can take a while to
germinate and get moving, plus the earlier
you sow the sooner you should have fruits
to harvest.
Seed potatoes arrived in January and
were laid out ready to start chitting, ready
for planting as soon as soil conditions allow
in March or April.
I won’t be sowing anything outside in
the plot until late March or early April
unless we get a very mild spell, and I
know the soil has warmed up properly.
Too many gardeners get itchy fingers and
start sowing too many crops too early in
the soil and wonder why they get poor
germination, which is usually caused by
cold soil conditions. They may think they
are getting ahead but are more likely to be
wasting their time and the seeds will have
to be sown again to fill any patchy rows, so
my advice is please always wait until the soil
conditions are just right and you are then
sure to get the best results from your Kings
Seeds.
Don’t forget if any NSALG member has a
seed problem and needs some free advice,
the team at Kings Seeds are always at the
end of a phone to help.
Happy Gardening!
