Interoperability Training with the Royal Army Veterinary Corps
by CPT Jennifer Cwikla, Chief UK Branch Veterinary Services, jennifer.d.cwikla.mil@mail.mil
In September, Lt Hardwick spent three days at the US Army veterinary treatment facility (VTF) in the RAF Feltwell, UK to gain an understanding of the US Army Veterinary mission capabilities and requirements to include Military Working Dogs (MWDs), privately owned animals (POAs) and the food mission.
The aim of this interoperability training was to strengthen the relationship between the Royal Army Veterinary Corps and the American Veterinary Service with interoperability training to allow insight to the US veterinary mission to include privately owned animal and MWD care, remote online record system use and to understand the differences between US and European veterinary medicine.
Lt Hardwick was successfully able to grasp the US Army veterinary services mission and the time spent together allowed both Of cers to gain insight on different approaches to both POA and MWD care from each service. The training opportunity further strengthened our Host Nation relationship for optimized medical readiness.
Lt Hardwick examines a POA’s ear canal while under anesthesia and discusses ear medications commonly used in the UK that differ from common American medications
CPT Cwikla and Lt Hardwick work together on a complicated, POA spay
