60 seconds of freefall to 6000ft which was the height where we would pull our own parachute. For Level 1 to 3 you are required to have two instructors with you during the jump, which gave all of us the confidence that we were in safe hands.
Unfortunately, due to weather complications, no Cadets were able to progress pass Level 2; however, the fundamental objective of the expe- dition was realised. This was ultimately for every OCdt to successfully complete a freefall skydive and jump from 15,000ft. It is safe to say that not every OCdt was comfortable with heights, and not a single OCdt was entirely confident in their ability to successfully freefall skydive; however, with a minimal amount of hesitation across the board, the expedition pushed them to the best of their abilities. The periods in which we were ‘grounded’ enabled us to observe the profes- sional capabilities of the instructors, learn more about the sport and opportunities within the Army and the Royal Engineers. We also had the opportunity to explore Seville, enabling us to enjoy its culture, made even more special by the trip coinciding with Holy Week.
A huge thank you goes to the Royal Engineers Sport Parachute team for their support and to our instructors Scotty, Jase and Rich. The trip wouldn’t have nearly been as enjoyable without their enthusiasm for the sport.
