The glory and excitement may go to the other companies but there would be none without the hard work, often behind the scenes, of the women and men of HQ Coy who keep the workforce and our equipment ready for anything.
The Workforce
The Bn is kept in peak physical condition by the gym staff under the brilliant leadership
of SSgt Blake (RAPTC). New equipment, new programmes and improved infrastructure enable a more holistic approach to PT to keep the Riflemen fit and to reduce injuries. COVID has had an impact but this has been reduced by the imaginative team of PTIs. The Med centre has continued to keep us healthy both in camp and when deployed and they have worked tirelessly to keep COVID out and to track those isolating. Our relatively low statistics, at the time of writing, are testament to their work.
Sgt Clark ran an excellent medical stand on Ex CHOSEN MAN complete with lots of casualty simulation, smoke and battlefield noises to test the Riflemen. The third element to keep us physically going is the catering platoon and our team of chefs have continued
Battle PT
to keep us fuelled for whatever our Riflemen are doing. This included an excellent Bugle Breakfast during Ex CHOSEN MAN.
The team in Regimental Administration Office (RAO) detachment have very efficiently kept the Battalion administrated, paid and tracked. The excellent work was recognised by being awarded the best RAO detachment in the Division.
The Equipment
Our Riflemen need good and well-maintained equipment to be effective; again, it is HQ that are central to this. The small team in the LAD has kept the fleet on the road and maintained the vast array of weapons, sights and other equipment. There efforts have been rewarded by a formal commendation from 1st (UK) Division’s Commander Equipment Support.
The MT continued the never-ending task of training our drivers and keeping us moving. They have supported all our training and oper- ations often at very short notice, especially to deliver B Coy to Liverpool for COVID testing. The QMs’ dept has quietly kept the myriad of stores, equipment and ammunition coming in and then getting them out again. It remains a mystery to most officer how this happens!
The last major element of HQ Coy is the CIS Platoon. They have kept us connected both
in camp and when deployed which has been critical during our support to the COVID efforts where laptops have been mission critical assets across Defence.
