The Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess
For obvious reasons the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants Mess has been a little on the quiet side over the last 12 months, therefore it was an ideal opportunity to complete some time intensive and long overdue upgrades. The most notable ones include a new roof over the mess conservatory, a redecorated sports bar, and a complete renovation of the woman’s bathroom. It seems £125K doesn’t get you much in pusser these days! On a serious note, we appreciate the blood, sweat and tears that have gone into completing this project so on behlf of the mess, I would like to say thank you to the Quartermaster, Maj D Thatcher RA, the former RQMS (M) Warrant Officer Class Two S Gribble and all of the DIO staff.
Interspersing this quiet period was a visit from a notable guest in September 2020; nothing more than the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chiefs of Staff Committee, Warrant Officer Class One G Haughton OBE MBA. In between receiving a series of equipment capability briefs across the Citadel, he got fully involved in morning PT and some abseiling alongside the mess members, he hosted a fireside chat in the ante room and was taken out on the boats by a 148 Bty crew led by Warrant Officer Class Two (BSM) S Dimbylow. This was a fantastic opportunity to see the mess alive again, albeit for only two days, while showcasing to the Senior Soldier in Defence the capabilities and high standard of soldier that makes our Regiment so unique.
