It’s not just for kids
audiences on each day, avid growers on Friday, family day on Saturday and bargain hunters coming for the big sell off on Sunday.
On the Friday, there were no children, but undeterred, Nigel managed to entice adults to the Seed Zone to sow a bean. He and Kelvin made the perfect “Team Bean” and over the course of the show, Rebecca Fredericks and Ann Brown also took a turn in the zone. Many thanks to Shelley Seeds for donating the beans.
Then on Sunday, at 4.30pm and not a moment before, the great sell off began. Crowds started gathering around the allotment before 4pm, they knew what they wanted and were determined to get it. It was all quite good humoured thankfully and the allotment was stripped bare. This

benefitted the organisers and so they kindly allowed the NVS to keep the funds raised.
The whole NVS team was tremendous, and I am extremely grateful to everyone who helped. Those already mentioned in the article and also Stan Taylor, an NVS newbie who quickly became an invaluable part of the team. John Trim kindly dropped off plants for our sale and Harry Theobald who amongst other things, worked tirelessly filling watering cans to keep the allotment alive. David Shergold was in his element encouraging visitors to grow veg. Phil Gould for all his help and
for transporting plants and stand equipment.
Many thanks to Norman Dickinson and Sandra Hall for taking the time to
visit the show, although unfortunately Sandra had the inevitable grim journey home.
We are extremely appreciative
to BBC Gardeners’ World Live for giving us the opportunity to be at the show, it was a great event. Equally they were thrilled by the NVS team’s participation. They said we “brought the allotment to life” and have already invited us back next year. We will be able to plan for 2022 and it will be a real collaboration with BBC GW Live.
