G COY OPERATIONS CYCLE
G ‘Coriano’ Company deployed on Operations after a busy but rewarding training cycle. The good work of our predecessors enabled the ‘break-in’ to theatre, providing the Company with the regional network and understanding to hit the ground running on arrival.
The period saw personnel deploy across the Middle East through a combination of team tasks and individual liaison roles. The 6-month team tasks involved partnering with specialised elements of the host-nation’s armed forces. This saw G Company put to good use many of the lessons learnt on the Training Cycle to provide bespoke training and advice to our partners. Yet, while training and advising were of course important, building enduring relationships was our ultimate goal.
The 6-month team-level training and advisory deployments across the Levant afforded our personnel the time to build strong, sustained relationships with our host-nation partners. While richly rewarding on a personal level, the cultivation of such relationships allowed the teams to build in-depth understanding of our partner’s problems and perceptions such understanding was augmented by the liaison network - comprising a mixture of Captains and NCOs
- which worked in concert with our partners and allies both in theatre and in the US. The insights afforded by these networks and relationships proved exceptionally useful
in providing understanding back to the UK, particularly in the event of crisis.

was operational, it would be remis not to mention the sterling work of those who did not deploy on persistent tasks. The Rear Operations Group performed exceptionally throughout, enabling the deployed elements to stay fully focused on the operational tasks at hand. The success of G Company’s partnered exercises with Indian Commandos in the UK and multinational SOF in Egypt served as
a textbook example of successful Defence Engagement.
Finally, and most importantly, special thanks must go to the families of G Company personnel who were separated from loved ones for so long. It was a pleasure to welcome everyone back safely at the end of tour Dashain gathering in November.
