4 RANGER
THE RANGER MARCH
4 RANGER, who secured first place in the inaugural Ranger March competition, involved
all members and units of the Army Special Operational Brigade. With an impressive average time of 2 hours and 10 minutes, 5 minutes quicker than second place, 4 RANGER showcased endurance and resilience over the challenging 12-mile course.

The 4 RANGER winning team
The Battlecraft Syllabus weeks (BCS) served as a rare opportunity for 4 RANGER to unite as a collective after prolonged operational commitments. This BCS week bore the title of the FALCON TROPHY.
While the BCS week evaluated our fundamental skills, its primary aim was to enhance unit cohesion by bringing together a substantial portion of our unit otherwise separated by a busy ORM. The events were imbued with a competitive spirit to bolster our unit’s Esprit de Corps.
The events were based around the Shoot, Move, Navigation and Mental Resilience fundamentals. The first day consisted of the Enhance Role Fitness Test (E-RFT) and the Army Combat Marksmanship Test (ACMT). Remarkably, this week marked the arrival of Capt Russon, who introduced himself to the Bn with a remarkable display of cross-lane firing skills and later earned the ‘Best Shot Durch’ award.
Next up the Rangers mental resilience was
put to the test on the assault course, where
an 18ft wall posed a formidable challenge for all teams (especially Capt Russon). This was followed by a military swim test, featuring a 5-metre entry into the pool in front of the entire Bn – there were a few nervous faces and
sadly no awards for graceful entries. Another highlight was a navigation exercise, organized by Cpl Borthwick, which brought a unique twist as teams were prohibited from using mapping.
Close Quarter Marksmanship and C8 weapon shoots were next up taking the familiar form of the “March and Shoot” with a gruelling 5-miler of death!
The final day held a surprise for everyone, the CO decided to introduce a unique event, after a swift safety briefing, we jumped into boats to paddle across a lake at best speed and set up a GMG.
To conclude the week, a barbecue and prize-giving ceremony was held. The result saw the G Coy team edge out B Coy to claim the FALCON TROPHY for 2023.
