Anyone famous popped in? From celebrities to Royalty we have been lucky to have served them all! My grandfather used to send a truckle of cheddar to Buckingham Palace for Christmas via Princess Alice, who lived in Barnwell.
What did you do during lockdown? Worked very hard to keep the business going.
What’s the best thing about being in Oundle? It is a fabulous town, but of course I would say that! Great facilities whilst remaining mainly full of independent businesses.
Most unusual request? My grandfather sold a barrow of horse manure. Not quite sure what a grocer was doing selling manure.
What makes Amps so special? We taste everything and so confidently say: if you do not like this wine bring it back, we will drink it for you and then find you a wine you like. All of the staff are trained to at least level two Wine and Spirit Education. Plus we give a proper traditional service.
What makes you proud? My wife and kids, followed by my loyal staff.
Dinner out or at home? Both, but possibly home is favourite, cooking my own food. ...and a favourite tipple to go with it?
Champagne, followed by great red and white wine, finished with port.
You have a day off, what do you do? Sport of all sorts, but I do not manage many days. Where would you visit? New Zealand.
Any future ambitions? To retire before I am too old to enjoy it. I have done 40 years in the business this year and I am 60, so getting towards that time!
What brings you joy? Seeing the business do well, and my family.
Jaffa cake or Hobnob? Neither, give me a piece of fruit cake, with a soggy middle.
Who inspires you? Sports people, but they are rarely footballers!!
