 WOODLAND
  ADVENTURES
By SI Jordan Oates
D company recently attended Hesley Woods for an Adventurous Training Day.
The day included the following activities: abseiling, cave bus, the cube and the obstacle course. The
cave bus is a caving experience built into a bus. Participants crawl around a small tunnel that loops up and down the length of the bus. It goes over and under to give several lengths of the bus if "cave". It is very clever as there is a central walkway where they can rescue anyone who gets panicked / stuck from a range of cupboard doors along the length of the bus.
These activities brought out a lot of challenges for the cadets and even adults enjoying themselves,
with Major Chris Ledger leading from the front with the abseiling.
The cadets came together as a team and showed lots of encouragement and support for each
other throughout and they all left feeling a major achievement as they conquered their fears.
   WALKING WITH THE WOUNDED
By 2Lt Louise Gillott
Rotherham detachment took part in the walking with the wounded (a charity that helps those that have served) throughout December. As a group we raised £218.72.
We used our keeping active nights to do some of the extra walking around detachment. Cadets and adult volunteers did their own extra walking such as walking to and from school/college and simply taking the dog for a walk or a walk with their friends and family.
  WATER BASED WEEKEND OF FUN
   By SSI Donna Nixon
A weekend of many firsts for six of our Adventure Training cadets. They all braved the autumn sunshine and dropping temperatures at Welton Waters Sailing Club near Hull.
All six had a try of kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding gaining a three star pass with much higher confidence and a sense of belonging.
The team worked together in tandem to paddle canoes, battled the winds on Saturday and ended the weekend with a big splash.
Cadet Charles Buckle from Thorne Detachment said: "I enjoyed the weekend; on Saturday it was a refreshing cold day but on Sunday the sun came out and the water was like glass, with reflections of our boats on the water which was amazing".
Cadet Georgina Tribick of Mexborough really enjoyed the kayaking and said: "I have been coached by Staff Nixon in the pool at Doncaster Dome and to bring everything I’ve been taught together at the lake was enjoyable as it put all my skills to the test."

Cadet Lance Corporal Ethan Evans of Thorne Detachment said: "The weekend was very relaxed, Captain Paul Meares showed me rescue skills on different crafts, which I enjoyed watching".
Welton Sailing Club is based on Welton Waters, these are a group of former Clay Pits located on the banks of the Humber estuary about 3 miles from the Humber Bridge. The lake that we sail on is one of the largest sailing lakes in the area, having an area of some 100 acres. It’s safe, enclosed waters make it an ideal place to learn any paddle sports.
