With Mr Joe Wicks doing his thing, we had to raise our game. The members of the PT Wing came together to create a robust plan to ensure we kept our OCdts fit and well in their mind, body and spirit.
With the technical help of the Academy (Ac) G6 team, the SMI and 12 PT Wing RAPTCI creative minds came together to deliver virtual PT to every OCdt within the academy. The source of communication was Microsoft teams, the surface pro laptops issued to all OCdt and 3 quiet locations within the gyms.
The plan was a success from the get go! With every OCdt logging into the live stream on Microsoft Team from their homes around the world. The PT Wing staff were ready and poised to instruct in this new virtual way. This process was new to the whole team but nevertheless using our initial instructor skills learnt in early training we gave virtual PT our best shot. From SSgt Hammond’s professional approach, to Sgt Felix ready to bunny hop on his first encounter we all found our own style of teaching.
And of course we made sure to have a plan B... Just in case we encountered a technical difficulty during the live stream! So, prior to conducting daily live stream lessons for the OCdt, the PT Wing uploaded the lesson plan onto the OCdts Company Teams page one hour prior to the lesson.
My First Assignment
Sgt (SI) J Madderson RAPTC
After an additional 3 months on the Instructors course due to Covid-19, I successfully transferred into the RAPTC on Sep 20 and was given the opportunity to be posted to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as a mainstream instructor. The pace of life within RMAS is fast and ever-changing, however, it enables you to be forward-thinking and certainly keeps you on your toes. In the short period, I have been here the situation with the pandemic has changed several times, which has forced us to change how

we deliver Physical Training to the OCdts. This has varied from face to face delivery to the use of online via Microsoft Teams.
Responsibilities and tasks within the PT Wing are vast and engaging, ranging from the delivery of competitions to writing this article for Mind, Body & Spirit. Having time to reflect on my initial 6 months within RMAS, I couldn’t think of a better first posting. Being at the forefront of delivering physical training and education to OCdts of all nations is a very rewarding job.
