Imphal Barracks is home to several units, but 2 Signal Regiment and 1 UK Division HQ are the main two units. 2 Signal Regiment are a very active unit and support numerous UK operations and on a wider scale; they have a lot of individual Operations in up to 16 different countries worldwide.
Due to Covid-19, 2020 turned out to be a very turbulent year for all, with very uncertain times for a lot of industries, including the Military, and we found ourselves in the unusual situation of working from home. During the year, there were many struggles and trying to maintain our service personnel’s focus and physical fitness was one of them. Utilising the digital age, the internet and the medium of Zoom, we were still able to offer our soldiers weekly, prescribed virtual PT sessions utilising the bodyweight version of the Lone Soldier Training Programme (LSTP).
In December we managed to plan and execute our annual unit health drive week. The week is designed to give our service personnel the knowledge required to make informed choices when it comes down to personal, health, fitness and lifestyle choices. The week consists of various theory presentations which include; nutrition, mental health and injury prevention and practical elements which included; cooking demonstrations (utilising the soldiers cookbook), a block master chef competition, an inter squadron physical challenge and a daily free healthy champions breakfast for all.
And this year, like no other, we had the extra challenge of trying to keep our soldiers safe by incorporating all the current FHPI guidance, safety measures and social distancing.
