Lyveden New Bield
Situated just a few miles from Oundle, Lyveden New Bield is an unfinished Elizabethan manor house dating back to 1604. There could be no finer setting for a ghost story and, obligingly, Lyveden has one.
The ruin is supposedly haunted by a long- faced, bearded man who stares out from one
of the top floor windows. The fact that the unfinished manor house doesn’t have any floors only adds to the tale.
The grounds of the house are also supposed to be haunted, this time by soldiers of the 43rd Highland Regiment. Although some soldiers
were captured at the house in 1743, they were not executed, but if you listen hard enough, you too might hear the ghostly sound of bagpipes and drums on a stormy night as others claim to have heard.
