Allotment NVS Winners Autumn 2022
The local Horticultural Show at West Brigdford attracted a lift in the turnout and an upturn in applications for future membership. The photos show some of the produce grown by NVS members winning tickets.
Everyone was blessed by a pleasant summer’s day with a most welcome change from the recent drought conditions and the consistent necessity of drenching the crops struggling to develop in the plots.
Now this is an interesting thing. This year’s show was packed with winners in
all sections. The first winning team were the enthusiastic administrators. They had toiled in vain to sort out two previously cancelled shows. This year their efforts were challenged by having to secure a new venue for the show, plan and advertise the event, position the displays tables, organise the business and judging as well as serving the teas and refreshments! A captivating achievement indeed.
Next and high on the list of champions were the excited youngsters each and every one was exhibiting for the first time, proudly putting on a display of their many inspired items and decorated table ware. There is no doubt that they will be the next set of growers supportive of the occasion.
Finally, the first-time winners, many who deciding to “give it a try this year”. No doubt they were delighted with their entries of the highest order, encouraged by the superb displays of flower arrangements, fresh-cut blooms, home produce and vegetables regularly seen at previous shows.
At the conclusion of these observations,
I give you good news all are set to exhibit again next year. They are looking forward to the Societies regular summer visits
and making use of the retail huts in the allotments when purchasing their fertilisers, compost, pesticides, and fungicides.
