“We’ve nowhere to go”
There was an interesting article in the South East region in this particular edition about toilets, or the lack of should we
say, entitled ‘We’ve nowhere to go’.
Thankfully
composting toilets
have come a long
way in the past 20
years and grants and
funding for allotment
sites have become
more accessible
but these desperate
gardeners of
Epsom Allotments’
Association were
trying to encourage their local
council to stump up £12,000 for such facilities on their site!
Don Shearley, President of Espom Allotments’ Association complained, “We are having to use natural methods to relieve ourselves – bushes or even buckets in our hut. There is nowhere else to go and with the arrival of women on the allotments, this is no longer acceptable”.
We would be interested to nd out how developments have progressed on this matter in the past years!
