camp between the 1–3 Oct 18. During the exercise the department formed the A2 Echelon and sustained the BG with
all commodities ranging from the small things like foot powder, fresh food to vital vehicle spares, fuel, water and rations. We controlled re-distribution of A Fleet and
B Fleet which included the backloading of dead platforms to either Shafa or the
ECP. The department used deployed LOG IS (MJDI) and JAMES and moved a large echelon with significant stores across the desert to the final ECP where we planned and executed the re-deployment of the BG.
The redeployment phase began in the BG leaguer at the end of the Exercise. From here the equipment underwent critical triage from the REME prior to the movement of
all BG platforms from to ECP to the JLSB for the ES work to take place. The QM’s department then focused on account closure and setting the conditions for the HOTO to the RTR for Exercise KHANJAR OMAN in 2019. The re-deployment of the fleet will see the department engaged in this activity well into 2019.
 AGS(SPS) Detachment – 2Lt Church
The second half of 2018 brought with it
a very busy and productive time for the
1 MERCIAN AGC(SPS) Detachment, with Exercise SAIF SAREEA 3 being the main effort, followed by the annual G1 audit in quick succession.
As with the rest of the Battalion who deployed to Oman, Ex SAIF SAREEA 3 saw the 1 MERCIAN BG AGC(SPS) team having to adapt to the demanding climatic conditions, as well as having to work with often limited means of communication and difficult vehicle movement.
Overall the exercise provided highly beneficial training for those who deployed, and it also saw Staff Sergeant Gemma Faulks receiving the GOC coin for her hard
work and diligence in administrating at both a BG and Brigade level.
Concurrent to this, the remainder of the detachment were working as part of the ROG and were busy with the difficult task of maintaining the administration of a Battalion whilst most of it was deployed nearly 4,000 miles away.
However, the rapid pace of life in
the Detachment has not been without opportunities for sport and recreation, with the chance for a Detachment day out being a welcome break from in-camp routine.
At the start of December, Cpl Niall Devlin entered a team in the AGC cross-country relay competition held at Worthy Down, which saw a strong performance overall

from a team which had significantly less time to prepare than their competitors.
Following on from the G1 audit at
the beginning, the Detachment ended the year with an evening out to the Christmas markets in Salisbury followed by a meal and drinks together. This was an excellent round-off to what has been a very busy year, and one which has put the 1 MERCIAN detachment in a strong position to tackle the tasks that lie ahead for 2019!
