to fit around the all-important Fire Power Demonstration and not impact too heavily on the exercise and recovery phases. This resulted in an incredibly fluid nominal roll each week. With flexibility and patience, we managed to co-ordinate 40 personnel per package on all five packages giving us a total of 200 personnel who received sail training.
Each package lasted for 5 days. The intensity was tailored to each group but consisted of learning to sail in a single
man Pico boat or a three-man Bahir boat. Preferences varied as some individuals preferred to be masters of their own destiny in a Pico whereas others liked the team

when things get too tough it provides the opportunity to develop coping strategies and practice mental resilience; something which will inevitably prove valuable in- service life and on the battlefield.
Boxing (OIC) – WO1 (RSM) Redfern
The Battalion team that entered the Bde Boxing competition have simply been outstanding from the start. They deployed to OMAN (Defence’s ME) with very little time to train and then showed selfless commitment after the exercise training 3 times a day in 40-degree heat while also sacrificing adventurous training. Personally, I would like to thank the following boxers: Pte’s Skerrett (brothers in B Coy), Pte Wainwright (D Coy), Pte Rodgers (D Coy), Pte Murdoch (A Coy), LCpl Cotterill (B Coy), Lt Dyson (A Coy) and Pte Briggs (HQ Coy).
The Bde competition consisted of the Royal Tank Regiment, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, 3 RIFLES, the Household Cavalry Regiment, 4 MERCIAN and the Royal Wessex Yeomanry. 1 RRF were Army champions last year and were the absolute favourites to win the Bde Boxing, they were also the unit hosting the event.
We went to their back yard as complete underdogs.
1 Bde Boxing Champions 2018 / Tidworth / Dec 18
We went to their back yard as complete underdogs. Due to the absolute diligence and experience of the coaches Cpl McCuaig (B Coy), LCpl Enright (D Coy), Pte Hunt (D Coy) and Sgt Done the other units didn’t stand a chance! The team showed
the mental and physical courage that is required to win and took home the prize of 1 (AI) Bde Champions 2018. 2019 will allow the Battalion team to grow ready to support 2 MERCIAN beating the RAF later in the year in Cyprus!
