After the 3rd Battalion Laying Up of Colours in Lichfield Cathedral on 13 January 2018, the 2nd Battalion also prepared for a Freedom parade and medal presentation
in Chester with the support of RHQ. The Lord Mayor, Councilor Razia Daniels and High Sheriff; Sue Callander-Beckett were invited to present the UN medals (Photo 1) and joined members of the Battalion for a reception afterwards (Photo 2).
A presentation was made to the retiring Lord Mayor in May as she loaned items
to the Cheshire Military Museum that had been gifted to her by the crew of HMS Albion (Photo 3). RHQ Chester acquired the Francia Puebla sculptures that were donated to the RHQ Lichfield and when they were delivered to Chester, they were loaned to the Cathedral and Town Hall (Photo 5), the new Lord Mayor. Councilor Alex Black got in early and nabbed first choice (Photo 4). One of the sculptures was displayed in the museum as part of the
Remembrance Centenary exhibition during November. They are now all back at RHQ.
During the year, the RHQ and museum have hosted CRA members for their annual Race Day. HMS Albion XO, welcomed a new Dean to the Cathedral and supported the Chester Civic Trust with a world war one projected display on to Chester Castle.
In 2019, we are hoping that the building will be subject to some minor refurbishment – fingers crossed.
