RAVC Reunion on Sat 28 July 2018
Owing to the RAVC Centenary Parade being held on Friday 27 July 2018, it was decided to bring the Corps Reunion forward to Saturday 28 July 2018, as the regular attendees of Corps events would already be in Melton Mowbray for the parade.
Saturday 28 July 2018 started off very well and not dissimilar to the previous day when it was sunny and hot at 32c, it began to rain just an hour before the annual reunion Service was due to start and the downpour just got heavier and heavier. As the Corps had recently purchased a magnificent marquée that covers the whole floor in the gymnasium at Remount Barracks and the setting was already prepared for the Reunion supper, a command decision was made to bring the Service indoors. Reverend Brian McAvoy performed his usual magic by conducting the Service, light blue style, but with a Centenary theme and everything went superbly, including the singing with the accompaniment of the Melton Mowbray Brass Band.
The reunion was attended by 250 serving, retired and Association members. The service was followed by the usual Annual General meeting for the RAVC Association and Officers Club, before the Chief Veterinary Officer’s open discussion which was open to all ranks. This session has proven popular over recent years as it gives everyone an opportunity to be updated on Corps matters.
Of note is that following a motion raised at this year’s AGM, it was decided to bring the next Corps Reunion forward to Saturday 22 June 2019.
