Andrw Tokely, a keen veg grower himself, is the Horticultural Director
of Kings Seeds and is a key part of
the process Kings seeds carry out to evaluate new seeds. Andrew grows the new seeds in his own allotment as a customer bench test. This is in addition to the rigorous testing carried out in their laboratory. We asked Andrew to share with us an insight into Kings seeds and their testing of seeds.
Kings Seeds have been a leading supplier of Vegetable, flower, herb and Sweet Pea seed from the traditional home of the British seed industry in Kelvedon, Essex since 1888.
The Company ethos has always been the same as when our founder Ernest William King started the business; To ensure the best possible purity of Stock is offered.
Kings Seeds have always been selecting and maintaining seed stocks longer than most other seed companies. We continue to maintain many old Open pollinated varieties, for example: - Wheelers Imperial Cabbage, Parsnip Tender & True, Tomato Alicante, Tomato Moneymaker and the true British strain of Perpetual Spinach plus many more. Kings Seeds are now unique as it is the last surviving wholesale horticultural seed merchant in the country.

after extensive training and passing examinations set by the UK’s Official seed testing stations.
Kings Seeds have always invested in its own Seed testing laboratory, so we can give quality assurance that the testing for germination, purity and vigour is carried out to the highest standards.
All seeds are stored under computer- controlled conditions to ensure the ultimate standard of germination is maintained
