RAYMOND HIGGINS FNVS
At the time of writing (24th July) we
are enjoying exhibiting our fruit and vegetables and meeting up with friends at the various shows around the country. It has been a particularly challenging season with very cold and wet weather. I must say the standard on the show bench at the early shows has been top quality so congratulations to all our members for their dedication. A very warm welcome to our new members,
if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us, as we are always happy to help.
On May 24th, our members travelled to East Clare to visit Irish Seed Savers. We had a guided tour of the 20-acre organic gardens, orchards and woodlands. It was a very enjoyable, educational and relaxing day. The weather was perfect. In the afternoon we visited a chocolate factory (Wilde Irish chocolate) which was a lovely treat. Many thanks to Harold Herlihy for organising this event.
At the time of writing, we are looking forward to our AGM at Tullamore Show on August 11th and excited to stage the Irish NVS Championships on Sunday 25th August at Moate Show. We will provide
a report in the next edition of simply vegetables. Congratulations to the three Irish members who were recently awarded well deserved fellowships. John J Mollen, Reggie Mitchell, and Sean Egan. Thank you for your continuous service to our Society.
Our next meet and greet is scheduled for 1pm on Saturday October 5th in Moore Hall, South Roscommon, N37 HT68. All members are welcome to attend, and refreshments will be served. Please bring
any spare vegetables from your garden as we will set up a mini show with a judging demonstration. Our own NVS member
and Culinary Arts Lecturer, Kevin Ward
will provide cookery demonstrations, showcasing innovative, health-enhancing ways to use our vegetables after the show season. On the same morning, we will hold
a committee meeting at 11am. This will be an opportunity for the team to review the activities of the society in 2024 and make plans for 2025. Any member who would like to join the committee or attend the meeting is more than welcome. On the day, we will have a raffle so any donations of prizes will be warmly welcomed.
