deployed, every person in Headquarters Squadron can feel justifiably proud of the part they played in what was a very demanding exercise.
It was after a much-deserved summer leave that the Squadron and Regiment bid farewell to our SSM, WO2 Kenny Imrie, who has now moved to the SNIY as their Training WO. Sergeant Major Imrie has been an exceptional SSM, a trusted advisor and confidant to two Sqn Leaders. Over nearly 3 years as HQ SSM he provided inspirational support to all in the Squadron: we wish him and the family all the best for future. The reigns of HQ SSM have now been taken up by WO2 (SSM) Kev Taylor, who is already proving to be accom- plished in role, a leader who is ideally suited for what will be a very challenging 2 years to come.
Fifty years ago, the Regiment formed from the Royal Scots Greys and the 3rd Carabiniers, therefore, dur- ing 2021, we were determined to mark our anniver- sary, and with no half measures, and to the best of our efforts, not hampered by COVID 19. Therefore, Maj Mike Houstoun set about leading the SCOTS DG 50 celebrations project, this he undertook whilst also deploying on Ex WESSEX STORM; given the abso- lute success of the anniversary celebrations, this was a quite remarkable achievement, for which he is to be congratulated. HQ Sqn personnel led by the UWO and RAPTCI SSgt Liam Baldwin organised and ran the Highland Games, a day that, for the first time in a number of years, brought the Regimental family together. It was a wonderful occasion, enjoyed by all
and befitting of Regimental families’ days that had gone before. It is also a great honour that HQ Sqn on the day won the Moncrieff Sports Shield, congratula- tions to all who competed and supported. The day was rounded off with the SCOTS DG 50 Regimental Party, a wonderful event organised by Capt Alex Humphries B Sqn - the bar is now set very high for all future celebrations.
In addition to those already mentioned, amongst oth- ers, we say farewell to WO2 ‘Topper’ Harley as he moves from the Training Wing to B Sqn as SSM, and to Cpl Baz Robb, Sqn MPA, now assigned to 2 Bn REME, who has served HQ personnel with diligence, loyalty and a humbling work ethic, setting a fine example for others to follow. We wish them both all the best for the future. We also congratulate SSgt Wright on receiving his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 2021, presented by 51X Commander.
2021 can justifiably be considered as one of the busi- est training years we have undertaken. All in the Squadron can reflect with immense pride upon our efforts and collective achievements. 2022 will see us deep into operational training as we ready ourselves for Op NEWCOMBE deployment. I have no doubt our leadership, our team spirit, and our ferocious will to succeed will again see us maintain the high standards we set ourselves. Well done to all.
