92 EAGLE AND CARBINE North West of England
and Wales Branch
After the Covid restrictions were lifted, our first get- together was the BBQ in July 2021 kindly hosted, once again, by Liz Scrivener at Gales Uchaf which twenty- five people attended. The Waterloo Pipes and Drums sent the sound of the pipes down the Welsh valleys. We took the opportunity to make Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Phillips an associated member of the Branch.
The delayed Nunshigum Ball was finally held at the Masonic Hall, Macclesfield, on Saturday 2 October 2021. Fifty-nine people attended the ball and we were honoured to host Quentin Smith, the chairman of the Trustees of the Wooden Spoon Charity and his wife, Caroline. Unfortunately, our Branch chairman, Colonel John Maclean, was unable to attend due to Covid restrictions. He was delayed in Ireland. The Waterloo Band entertained us with a selection of pipe music. An auction of rugby regalia and other prizes, and a raffle raised £1200 which was shared with the Wooden Spoon and the Branch. Plans are already in place for the Nunshigum Ball 78.
Forty-four people including two new members, Colin and Andrew Daniels, attended the annual reunion held on Saturday 13 November at the United Services Club in Chester. In total forty-four people attended. All had a great time, and it was good to see all the old
boys again, after nearly two years. Bob Riley who never misses the annual reunion, even made the journey from County Tipperary.
On Remembrance Sunday twelve members were on parade. The Secretary, Peter Farley, laid the wreath at Chester cathedral and Adam Butler carried the Standard.
On Sunday 5 December, we held our first branch meeting at the United Services club and discussed the future of the branch as the Secretary will be retiring at the AGM in March 2022. We also held our Christmas card exchange, with a drink and mince pies.
