nings Mess events, all ranks and their guests gathered outside the officers mess for the Beating to Quarters.
After a triumphant show from the Pipes and Drums the regiment split into their respective messes and enjoyed 50 years of reminiscing, food and entertain- ment into the small hours.
For those on a journey down memory lane the chefs produced an enormous brunch to fuel the Highland Games, no sooner had Maj Brett Taylor taken off his apron and finished his egg banjo the skirl of the pipes led us all to the rugby pitches for the Highland Games. The Squadrons were pitted against each other in vari- ous sporting events and finals for the Moncrief Shield culminating with the exhausting tug of war.
Capt Humphries and Sgt Russett had the unenviable cross to bear of delivering a party “better than the one the CoR threw when he was Commanding Officer” the vetoing of the foam tent was the least of their worries as they battled true to form with commitment issues. There were COVID-19 cancelation policies and a budget so tight than even a Scotsman would smirk. However the shock on arrival was palpable, there was not a Caesar salad to be seen and the food stands were serving up a divine spread and much to my delight an ice cream van! As if German Beer and Bratwurst wasn’t enough for all to reminisce about Fally, the Malt Whisky Society added fuel to the furnace with their whisky tastings and when the Strawberry Daiquiris at the Gin Bus were done the Blue WKDs kept the crowd dancing.
It is important to remember at events like SCOTS DG 50 those who work so tirelessly in the background setting up, moving weapons, stagging on and polish- ing equipment and most thanklessly tidying up after- wards, Thank you. Once I had done the rounds on Sunday to see how the tidy up was going I loaded the last of my bags into a van and drove South to start my

new job in Andover at 0830 the next morning leaving everyone else to deal with the aftermath and get ready for the next exercise!
