  SPORT
welcomed with a salusalu, this is presented to show love and appreciation, the food was delicious and endless, the entertainment was fantastic and the band played all night whilst everyone sang and danced the night away. Unfortunately the night had to come to an end, so we got back on the coach to the hotel feeling tired but happy.
Day 9 – Rest day
After a few days of being busy it was time for a well needed rest day, and we were kindly invited to have lunch with a BFG based Fijian who was visiting his family on leave. They welcomed us with open arms and put on a lovely spread for us all to enjoy. After lunch some headed off to church whilst others relaxed by the pool to soak up the last few hours of sun. Our last night in the big city was one of mixed emotions but we were all looking forward to what the next part of the tour would bring.
Day 10 – More donations!
Today we had the opportunity to visit
a remote village to drop off some more donations and the only way to get there was by boat! On arrival we presented our gifts
to the villagers and the village chief gave us a blessing. We were then given a tour of
the village, the men were out working on the surrounding hills whilst the woman were sat splitting leaves to make traditional mats. We were shown how to husk a coconut using an extremely sharp knife, some of the ladies gave it ago whilst the rest of us watched on hoping we wouldn’t have to make a trip to the hospital! The village was without running water and electricity, and it was a real eye opener to how we live our normal day to day life back in Germany and made me feel very fortunate for everything that I have. After the visit to the village we got back on the boat and took a short ride to a nearby waterfall, it was beautiful and was a nice way for us to cool off. Once cooled off we headed back onto the boat ready for lunch, a BBQ was provided for us, we all ate as much as we
could stomach before an afternoon of river tubing and netball.
Arriving back to the village we dried off
and got changed into our netball strips, the village didn’t have a court, so they had spray painted some lines onto an area of grass. This was the first time we had all played on grass and it was not easy as the ground was very uneven, luckily no one got injured! The team of young ladies did not own a netball strip, so we gave them the netball strip that King’s School in Germany had kindly donated to them. There was a lot of laughter and not a lot of netball skills from the BFG netters, and the laughter was so contagious that the mums and aunts wanted to join in. It’s hard to believe this all happened in one day but
it sadly had to come to an end. We left the village with some donations of books and stationary for the local school, and netball equipment to go with the strips. Back to
the hotel we went for a quiet evening before starting our trip back to Nadi in the morning.
Days 11 to 13
The coach was loaded and off we went for the 3 hour drive ready for our next stay at the Funky Fish resort on the island of Mololo. Once we arrived we swapped the coach for a boat and after a 1 hour crossing we arrived at the Funky Fish. There were no plans and no timings, some of us decided to make use of the pool and sea whilst others went off out for the day for some of the excursions that were advertised. With it being the last few days left in Fiji it was nice just to chill out before the journey back to Germany.
All good things come to an end and it was time to pack up and start the journey back home. On our final night in Fiji we stayed in the Tanona hotel which was pure luxury. We had a midway stop in South Korea, where the temperature was -6 and a shock to the body having come from 32-degree heat, before our final leg to Frankfurt airport. It was sad that it all happened so quickly but what a fantastic opportunity it was and one that I will never forget.
