The Trust ran three Commissioning Balls during the year with OCdts and their guests dancing to one of the contemporary music ensembles from one of the Army bands. The August ball was opened by a parachute display. The time-honoured unveiling of the Second Lieutenant pips at Midnight is still the highlight of the night.
During 2023, we fielded our new website which is not only far easier to use but incorporates ticket- ing for our events. Huge thanks to the staff who worked tirelessly on this and the team from Tou- cantech who we were delighted to host for a Sov- ereign’s Parade. The website arrived just in time for us to cover the King taking the salute at the April parade and present New Colours to The Academy.
Finally, The Trust continues to be an integral part of Sandhurst life, be it supporting Academy events such as Pace Sticking, educating the cadets during history tours or simply reporting on the quirks of life at Sandhurst such as a double rainbow with the crock of gold seemingly located in Victory Building.
In conclusion, The Trust thrived during 2023, con- tinued to grow and we now employ eight staff. It was a team effort to compile our latest book They Also Served – 200 people who trained at Sand- hurst. With all profits going to the charity, I will fin- ish with a shameless plug for the book.
The Trust continues to support UK-funded Interna- tional Cadets. Few can afford to return home dur- ing the recesses so our grants enable them to at least travel a little in the country to break up, what can be, in the summer, a four-week break. We also support Ex DYNAMIC INFLUENCE, in which Inter- national Cadets are taken to London for the day by RMAS staff and shown some of the sights of our capital. The ‘flight’ on the London Eye was espe- cially popular.
The charity also supported Intermediate Term Cadets going off on Adventurous Training expedi- tions in December. Grants were provided to OCdts from CC223, CC231 and CC232 for Adventurous Training expeditions. The reports of some of them are earlier in this edition.
We continue to provide the Sandhurst Medal for International Cadets with well over 1,400 now pos- sessing the award. The medals are presented by The Commandant in a simple but symbolic cer- emony. The Trust continues to sell the old EIIR medals for those commissioned before December 2016.
The new medals presented this year bear the cypher of King Charles. International Cadets wear their medals on their Sovereign’s Parade and heartily gave three cheers for The King at the April parade.
