 30 SOCIAL REPORT
REPORT FROM THE SOCIAL TEAM
2019 has been a great success socially for the Club, with all our events being well supported by members.
Particular highlights of the year so far
have been the Gins Opening Dinner, the Caribbean Summer Party, lunch with HRH Prince Michael of Kent and the End of Summer Party. It has been wonderful to
see so many members enjoying the new improved facilities at Gins, alongside the warm welcome and hospitality offered by Lauren and her team.
Old favourites such as the Round the Island Crew Supper, the Cowes Fireworks Supper and the Flag Officers’ Cocktail Party have also been very well received.
We also offer a range of events for our Southampton area-based Members: Pub of the Month, Convivials and the Dining Club, whilst the ever-popular Carvery Quiz has found a new home at the Boathouse, Hythe Marina.
For the winter months, we have a number of new ideas to tempt you, including a Gastronomic Evening in November, which will consist of a six-course tasting menu, with wine flight, and in February a New Forest Game Gourmet Evening. We will also be hosting wine, gin and beer tastings; there is something to suit all palates.
Members have been able to visit and take part in events hosted by the Royal London Yacht Club who also provide splendid accommodation in Cowes which can be booked by prior arrangement with the RLYC.
We have a varied programme for the festive season at Gins, including a Christmas Flower Arranging Day, Christmas Carvery
Lunches and a Christmas Party, with the band Dog Ruff. Santa’s Christmas Lunch will feature a special visit from Father Christmas and carol singing with the Beaulieu Band. Post-Christmas there will be a Gins Rally and Walk Lunch, run
in conjunction with the Cruising Sub- committee.
For NewYear we will be joining with the Hythe Marina Association for a black-tie New Year’s Eve Party at the Boathouse, Hythe Marina. This offers members an easily accessible venue, which they can travel to
by boat or car, or stay locally. On New Year’s Day people can reconvene at Gins where we
will be serving a ‘Bottomless Brunch’. Planning is also well under way for next
summer, with a 4th of July Mayflower Summer Party being the ‘must attend’ event of the season.
Hopefully, we have something for everyone!
