The attack started at 0530hrs with a section
advancing to contact under the bright light of flares, from then onwards Stormberg platoon tackled a series of established enemy positions, with Sections echeloning through one another to deal with enemy depth. The effort and determination shown by Stormberg platoon throughout the attack was second to none and every member of the platoon worked to make the final exercise both enjoyable as well as a success, earning their cooked breakfast with extra boiled eggs on Frog Hill.
In summary, over the course of their Module A training, Stormberg platoon demonstrated that with the right attitude and determination to achieve the very highest standards, the levels of challenge within training can be increased
to meet the quality of the OCdts undertaking
‘Take Cover’
it. Considering that this was their first ever taste of an army exercise, the Stormbergers should
be very proud of their achievements over the duration of the course, with their sights now firmly set on Module B and beyond!

‘The first element of the day aimed to brush off and homogenise the navigation skills of the new cohort.’
‘Our second element comprised three
stands: a pairs fire and manoeuvre refresher using paintball guns, a grenade lesson and the culmination, a section attack. For this element the cadets reformed into platoon formation with the JUOs playing enemy.’
‘As familiarity and confidence builds, the level of energy and aggression applied to these basic tactical exercises should build also, and it is positive to have refreshed these fundamentals so early in the training year.’

‘The JUOs assisted Capt Rowell by way of mentoring small groups of OCdts through the combat estimate as well as allowing correctly manned enemy positions to be placed on the ground to make the platoon attack on Sunday as realistic as possible.’
‘We then deployed out to the FUP under my command to conduct a platoon deliberate attack (blank) onto Obj GOLD’s three enemy trenches with an H-hour of 0815 and positions clear by 0900.’
‘Despite the huge volume of information everyone took to the new material well and B Coy now has a solid base understanding of the combat estimate and orders process from which to build on, in order to succeed when in
