A team of 8 Officer Cadets participated in
the Royal Artillery weekend held at Larkhill. The weekend provided exposure to Artillery Regiments, as well as competitive challenges, which created a competitive atmosphere between the participating UOTCs.
We had the opportunity to complete a gun run as one of our first stations, which consisted of a route, approximately 400 metres, down and up a slight hill. This tested our group’s abilities to effectively communicate with each other, since it was challenging to take a step back and look at the bigger picture and find ways of making the gun easier to push.
We were then introduced to the different types of transport as well as imagery radars. We had the privilege to see the light gun fired and see first-hand the functions of the control point. The challenge then was the mile-long log run, which consisted of 6 people to the log and 2 others to rotate round. This was a good challenge, testing the stamina and endurance of the team.
We participated in the assault course
challenge, which involved a team effort to cross the 12ft wall and other challenging obstacles.
After completing a challenging day, we spent the evening in the Officers’ Mess, which was a good time to find out more about individual roles in the artillery and tips on the application process, in a more relaxed environment.
