 INTER-COMPANY TRAINING & VISITS
 Summer Mountain Foundation Part 2
Although many a pair of boots have scrambled their way over the vast foothills of Snowdonia national park, not many can rival the experience of this group of officer cadets.
Setting out to complete our Summer Mountain Foundation Course, we departed Cambridge
in convoy, and arrived at Capel Curig in the
early hours of Saturday morning. Tents were assembled by torchlight and after a few hours sleep we began our weekend with lectures centred around key knowledge and skills required for hill walking. An afternoon of sunshine was spent in Betws-y-coed, were we sampled the local Welsh cakes, and completed a demanding shopping expedition of every discounted walking shop in the area! Armed with our new matching flasks and an understanding of the equipment required to stay safe in the hills, we were able to tackle the arduous walk (of our whole 2km!) for our micro nav. We practiced our 100m pacings and grid references and learnt how to determine our location based on our surroundings. Unfortunately, that evening we had to revise for the written test on Sunday...fortunately we are able to do this in the warmth with a hot chocolate!
