been an important factor in the excellent relations which the Sovereign Base Areas enjoy with the Cyprus Government and the Turkish Cypriot Administration.”21
Wilkinson Sword of Peace
The caption on the Sword proudly displayed in the Station Museum, RAF Akrotiri reads:“The 1974 Wilkinson Sword of Peace was awarded to
RAF Akrotiri for its outstanding efforts
during 1974 in the field of humanitarian activities.”
This was in no small part due to the efforts
of all staff at TPMH. RAF Akrotiri has won
this Sword three times – in 1974, 2002, and most recently in 2006 for evacuating thousands of refugees from Lebanon in OP HIGHBROW, in which TPMH also played its part.
