PARACHUTING
PADRE APPOINTED TO
MIRFIELD AIR CADETS
The Squadron Chaplain has been an integral part of
the Squadron and activities for very many years at
868 (Mirfield) Squadron, in the person of Reverend
Christine Shedd who had served in the role for over
16 years!
Although the Squadron was sad to see her
departure last year, when she retired from the
post, she made sure that the role would not be
vacant for long by recommending a suitable
successor, Reverend Ian Jones, from one of the local
parishes. After interview with the Wing Chaplain,
arrangements were made for Ian to visit the
Squadron and talk to the Squadron Commander.
It transpired that not only was Ian an excellent
candidate for the role of Chaplain, but he also
pursues a hobby that seemed very appropriate
to Air Cadets: Free Fall Parachuting. So, Ian was
rapidly invited to deliver a talk on the subject as
his introduction to the cadets of the Squadron
and he quickly built a rapport with them talking
about talking about parachutes, and the thrills of
parachuting.
Following the completion of the administration
process for Ian’s appointment, the Wing Chaplain
...he also
pursues a
hobby that
seemed very
appropriate
to Air Cadets:
Free Fall
Parachuting.
Canon Darren Perceval and Reverend Ian Jones
of South and West Yorkshire Wing, Canon Darren
Percival, visited Mirfield Squadron to conduct the
formal induction of the Reverend Ian Jones, to his
position as Squadron Chaplain of 868 (Mirfield)
Squadron, and Squadron Commander Flight
Lieutenant Peter Doubell pinned his Chaplain’s
badge onto his stole.
