Help 4 Heroes Canoe Expedition
Local lad Matt King-Smith 21 and three university friends paddled their way from Fort William to Inverness in the Scottish Highlands a distance of approximately 96 kilometres. It began as four university students planning the marathon journey for their Outdoor Leadership Course at the University of Central Lancashire, but Matt a Mercian Badged sergeant with the Macclesfield Army Cadet Force had other ideas and set up a Just for Giving web page in support of Help for Heroes.
Then there was a set back and one of the team had to drop out leaving three people to paddle two canoes plus all of the equipment. The road journey to and from the expedition took over 20 hours, but in spite of wind and weather the three students completed their expedition in three days and raised over £300.
