Derbyshire ACF Cadet Sunday – 4th September 2011
On a bright September afternoon about 350 members of Derbyshire ACF and their supporters congregated in Derby Market Square. The cadets and adult volunteers led by the Derbyshire band then marched to the Cathedral. The service was conducted by the three Derbyshire padres Major David Truby, Captain Peter Swales and Captain Tim Sumpter after an introduction by the Cathedral Precentor Canon David Perkins. The banners which
had been placed at the Altar were collected and dipped for
The National Anthem. The honoured guests including The Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff, Honorary Colonel and a number of Mayors and Councillors after leaving the Cathedral joined the Commandant Colonel Trevor Paulucci at the war memorial. The county then marched past with the salute being taken by the Cadets.
An act of Christian charity
Whilst reconnoitring the cycle route for adventure training at annual camp in the village of Sheriff Hutton a church with a very old and ragged flag was found. After a conversation with the local Vicar it was apparent that none of the congregation was agile enough to go up the tower to change the flag. Lt Andy Smith volunteered his services for the task required which included climbing and a little abseiling. What makes this story more interesting was the discovery of a grave in the cemetery belonging to a Sherwood Forester. He was thirty year old George Herbert Jefferson and died on 9th March 1919. Whilst Lt Smith was changing the flag some cadets tidied the area around the grave and
a minutes silence was observed in honour of a fallen Forester. Another example of cadets caring for the community.

A photo essay of Nepal
In October thirty members of Derbyshire Army Cadets went to Nepal in celebration of 150 years of the Cadet movement in
the UK. Thirty stories would have been
too much for anyone to suffer so here is a Photo Essay of the trip, for as we all know a picture paints a thousand words. The photos were taken by different members of the team and as such the credits will be as a team. We in Derbyshire Cadets hope you will enjoy seeing what we saw first hand.
