and wildlife factors only the Kenyan savannah can offer. They continued as C Sqn had left off, soldiering hard and doing the basics well. The surprise capture of the enemy company commander, whom they fortuitously stumbled across, was a great end to a testing exercise.
The year ended in a similar vein to how it started. Troops traveling to and from arduous exercises in Kenya, and with the Nordic and Alpine ski teams lining the slopes with hopes of divisional recognition in their sights. Readiness for operations remains an enduring theme. The major difference at the end of this calendar year is that operations were underway for the regiment, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Harris. C Sqn deployed under Major Gubbins, in November 2023, and were supported by HQ Squadron under Major Lees. B Squadron were lined up to rotate through in the New Year. All of which was under the banner of Task Force PSYMA, in support of Operation ORBITAL.
Constant is the demand on Light Dragoons to deploy its people all over the world. Be they soldiering, engaging, or adventuring. Our people are at the heart of this. We end the year with 102.1% on strength, having welcomed four new troop leaders, forty new troopers and eleven transferees. Rest assured, whilst the world changes around us, the Light Dragoon’s brand remains the same: operationally intact and thriving. 2024 will no doubt have plenty in store. Troops returning from operations, adventure training in the diary to Bavaria and Greenland, and an exercise in Kenya in the Autumn. The fun never stops and there is never a bad time to be a Light Dragoon. Viret in Aeternum. Merebimur.
